A mage/thief is a former thief which discovered they had abilities in the arcane arts, giving up their criminal career to train in the ways of magic. Consequently, they continue to carry some qualities that still make them a skilled thief!

General Information

  • Mage/thieves are primarily like a mage, but have thief skills.
  • Their casting time is slower than that of a mage, due to their deviation in studying magic.
  • Because of their trained stealthiness, a mage/thief has the ability to dodge, sneak, hide quite well, steal, and backstab. Yet, none of these qualities are nearly done as well as a pure thief.
  • They are blessed with still having the ability to cast mage only spells, such as armor, enchant, and many others that are useful in battle.
  • Despite being able to cast knock, a mage/thief is also able to pick locks (good for situations where you want to save MP).

Summary of Skills: backstab, picklocks, steal, always detects magic.
Lacking Pure Class Skills: no transmute, no enchant, cannot steal gold, no parry/riposte.
Armor Type: Cloth

Benefits from Stats

Suggested prime requisites are in magenta. If you decide to make a mage/thief, do keep in mind which stats affect what. This class is particularly hard to stat for at times, because most of the stats play a bit of a role in everything. It is up to you how you would like to prioritize:

  • Intellect + Piety: Dictates how long your stun spell will last. Like a pure mage, it is your primary defense. It should be assumed that you will need PTY along with it, since M/Ts still receive a large mana pool compared to other classes.
  • Strength: Aids you in physical damage, thus backstab and your normal hitting. Multiclass mages have the benefit of not having weapon restrictions like a normal mage would, so investing more in STR would not be a bad idea.
  • Dexterity: Your steal skill and dodge rate both rely on this stat. The higher it is, the more successful both these things will be.
  • Constitution: With lower CON, you may suffer from longer durations of poison. But as a mage, you should not need the extra HP and would not benefit so much from CON as other classes would. Not recommended.
